New York CNN —Private equity executive Edgar Bronfman, Jr., whose family includes well-known supporters of Israel, is calling for the leaders the University of Pennsylvania to step down due to their response to the Hamas terror attacks against Israel, CNN has learned. College campuses have experienced a surge in tensions since the October 7 terror attack by Hamas and as the Israel-Hamas war continues. Last week, UPenn said it alerted the FBI to a series of threatening antisemitic emails sent to university staff. UPenn declined to comment on the Bronfman email. “This blurring of Hate speech as free speech is exactly what the University has enabled – even encouraged,” Bronfman wrote.

Billionaire Ronald Lauder wrote a letter threatening to stop donations to the University of Pennsylvania. "Those invited to the event had a history of not just strong anti-Israel bias, but outright antisemitism," he wrote. "The University did not, and emphatically does not, endorse these speakers or their views," Magill wrote in an email to the Penn community on Sunday. Lauder, who is worth $4.5 billion, per Forbes, has donated millions of dollars to Penn, as has his brother, Leonard.

This unfortunate situation the Fed is in — damned if you do, and damned if you don't — is illustrative of a deeper issue. Many politicians, companies and households risk thinking of the Fed as part of the problem and not part of the solution. And it is the latter, currently at 6.3%, that measures the breadth and likely persistence of inflation. But it was not until the end of November of last year that the Fed stopped assuring us, repeatedly, that inflation was "transitory." Just a few months ago, it was still pumping liquidity into the economy while inflation was rising fast.
